How RFSU Test Condoms

During the manufacturing process, RFSU condoms are dipped vertically into a liquid latex solution.  Not once, but twice.  When the latex solution is allowed to drip off, the condom becomes somewhat thicker at the tip.  This is exactly where extra strength is required. dipped.gif (3068 bytes)

Air Bursting
(Pressure and volume)

All RFSU condoms are 100% tested electronically to detect possible perforations.  After that, RFSU test the bursting pressure and volume by filling the condom with air.  Then followed by random tested 3 times before they can be approved to sell to the market. electric.gif (4122 bytes)
By now it's time for the real test of a top quality condom.  We are rather proud of this test, since it was developed at the RFSU laboratory in Sweden.  We call it the Water-bursting Test.

What we do is fill the condom with water.  This is the only test which really gives an opportunity to check the condom's strength and elasticity, particularly at the tip.  The tip is the critical part of the condom since it is subject to the highest strain during intercourse.

Tensile strength

After RFSU's unique water-bursting test, you'd think we wouldn't bother to check our condoms again.   Wrong!!  We also test for holes and check the tensile strength.

One set of the tests were carried out after the condoms were treated artificially to age 5 years, and they should be still reliable.  A final control is carried out after the condoms have been packaged to make sure that nothing has happened during the packaging process.  After this last check, it's   time.

The RFSU condom standards are 15 times more stringent and therefore exceed all nationally regulated condom quality standards in the world.

Currently, the most commonly used condom testing standards are ISO 4074 (International Standard), EN 600 (European Standard), and BS 3704 (British Standard), etc.

Additional Information (Switzerland employed the strictest requirement for import condom quality. RFSU condoms are the only Brand we found in the Hong Kong market, which also allowed to be sold in Switzerland.)
