Sexually transmitted diseases are infectious. The causative germs of S.T.D.'s affect both men and women in many different ways. Some S.T.D.'s are symptomless especially in women. Therefore S.T.D.'s cannot be contracted via lavatory seats, towels or bedsheets, nor can they be spread through social contacts such as shaking hands, sharing meals or swimming in public pools.
