INJECTABLE   CONTRACEPTIVES
It is highly effective birth control method for 12 weeks of each injection.  These injections contain hormone which causes changes in the cervical mucus and the uterine lining, reducing the chances of conception and implantation of the fertilized egg.  It may also suppress ovulation.

It saves the user the trouble of taking birth control measures daily or every time before love-making and it is most suitable for lactating mothers, older women who desire long-term birth control and those who cannot take the oral Pill.

Some women may experience menstrual disturbance such as less frequent or even absence of periods while using injectables, this is expected reaction and thus should not be too nerves.  However, a few women may have prolonged or heavy menstrual bleeding, in which case a doctor should be consulted  A small proportion of users may experience depression, headache, dizziness, weight gain and allergic reactions.

It normally takes some time after stopping its use before the woman can get pregnant, the duration of this period varies from person to person and may be from one month up to a year.  It is advisable for a woman to have an annual medical examination while she continues to use injectable contraceptives.
