| CONTRACEPTION |
|
| Emergency contraception should be considered in
cases unexpected sexual intercourse occurred, such as in rape, or when contraception was
inadequate, such as condom leakage. High dose oral pills are effective if taken
within 72 hours of intercourse, or an IUD may be inserted if intercourse took place less
than 5 days ago. Doctor should be consulted for prescribing emergency contraception
because there may be associated side effects. It is not recommended to use
frequently and one of the reliable birth control methods should be adopted to avoid future
recurrence. |
